“Having Abby in the show room is a great thing for us”, explains Colleen, who runs the Burnaby storefront, “She is so happy to get attention all day, the staff and clients love her, and taking her for walks during the day is a great opportunity to get some fresh air and clear your mind.”
Meet Abby:
Abby is a 12 (we think!) year old Miniature Pinscher x Cocker Spaniel (we think!). Abby has been rescued twice! Her first human provided Abby with a diet of Donuts – which she thought were mighty tasty, but have left her with not-so-great teeth and a little extra around the middle to love. Her 2nd human rescued her, but was unable to keep her unexpectedly, so Abby needed to move again! Not much is known about her breed or history. Colleen Welcomed Abby to her brood with open arms. At one time, Colleen had 2 rescue dogs, one Foster Dog, and rescue cat!
Today, Abby is a happy, quiet and hungry dog. She is always sniffing around for a snack (especially if there is something tasty in your purse, she’ll dive right in!), and she is notorious for looking at you with big brown eyes, while shivering, just waiting for you to accidentally drop a piece of food. She gets to come to work every day with Colleen, and loves to pretend she’s the guard dog. Even though she`s a senior dog, and is suffering from slow developing heart disease, which is giving her a cough, she is very content.
Abby enjoys eating, sleeping, nestling under blankets, hunting for mice, and lots of snuggles!

Door Dealer Creates iPhone App to Assist in Collecting Site Inspection Data
Door dealers are frustrated with receiving incomplete and inaccurate reports from their field staff. Many of them have to return for second and even third site checks. The findings are gleaned from years of discussion and debate within the door industry. According to Kyle Hart, Vice President & C.O.O. of Canadian Doormaster Electric Ltd., the inaccuracy is getting worse, particularly among the new generation of young field technicians. “As I spoke to other door dealers about this dilemma, I realized just how wide spread this problem is”, Kyle says, “So I decided to do something about it”. In the age of technology, a paper checklist seemedcumbersome. Kyle envisioned an electronic form that would collect data, images, and generate a report for the office.
Rolling DOORMASTER is the first of a series of iPhone apps developed by Kyle Hart. The app is specifically designed for the overhead and garage door industry to measure rolling overhead doors, grilles and shutters. It can be used to generate a complete site check report with all opening, door, operator, controls and safety data, customer information, and photographs. Once the report is completed, it can be printed directly to any AirPrint enabled printer, or emailed to the office. It provides a clean, polished and well organized site check summary with all the information needed for future reference. The app is designed to improve dealer efficiency, and reduce errors due to lack of proper details.
The app is available on the iTunes store for $13.99. This is a one-time purchase fee with no subscription dues. There will be continually updated in-app purchases to suit specific industry needs. With over 20 years in the door field, Kyle explains “Rolling DOORMASTER was created by a door guy, for a door guy”. He welcomes all feedback and suggestions.
